GOLF COLONELS TO PLAY IN MARSHALL INTERCOLLEGIATE MARCH 20-21

RICHMOND, Ky. - Coach Pat Stephens' Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team continues its spring season, traveling to Citrus Springs, FL, to play in the Marshall "South" Intercollegiate Tournament Monday and Tuesday (Mar. 20-21).

The tourney, which includes teams from NCAA District IV, will be played at the El Diablo Country Club in Citrus Springs.

"This is a brand new tournament that we will play every year that will give us a good idea early of how we are stacking up against the teams we will be playing during the spring season," said Stephens.

The Colonels started the 2000 spring season with a 10th place finish in the 18-team Wolverine South Invitational at Beaufort, SC, in early March. The tournament was hosted by the University of Michigan. The top scorer for EKU was senior Eric Willenbrink who finished eighth overall with a two-day score of 152, which put him at +8 for the tournament.

Two other notable Eastern scores were James Milam who finished tied for 32nd with a two day total of 159 and Brad Morris who finished +17 which placed him tied for 42nd. Also, Brandon Tucker had a finish of +20 for 59th place. Chad Creech had a 166 which placed him in 66th spot.

"I was pleased with our first-day scores, but the unfamiliar grass and tight greens hurt us with high scores on Sunday. We could have finished as high as fourth or fifth with better short play," said Stephens.
