EKU GOLF COLONELS HEAD TO INDIANA FOR BALL STATE INTERCOLLEGIATE
RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team heads to Ball State University this weekend for the Ball State Intercollegiate.
The Colonels are coming off a 13th place finish at the Marshall Invitational in West Virginia last weekend with a three-round score of 903.
Leading the way for Eastern at Marshall was senior Eric Willenbrink with a four-over-par score of 220, which tied him for 11th place. Junior Brad Morris also placed high with a 22nd place showing with a score of 223. Rounding out EKU's scoring was junior Sam Covitz who finished with a score of 228, senior Chad Creech at 233 and senior Brandon Tucker at 239.
"We were feeling good about how we were playing after the first two rounds. We were only three or four shots out of the top five and then the bad weather hit Saturday," said EKU head coach Pat Stephens. "We had a round of 311 which is not near what we usually shoot. But considering 40 mile per hour winds and sleet blowing in your face, that wasn't that bad. It was a tough field up there under tough weather conditions."
Teams entered at Ball State, a 54-hole tourney that will include a 36-hole day Saturday and 18 holes Sunday, include Cleveland State, Southern Illinois, Butler, EKU, Ball State, Detroit-Mercy, Evansville, Murray State, Wright State, Bowling Green, Morehead State, Eastern Illinois, IUPUI, Notre Dame and Youngstown State.
"Our guys will get three qualifying rounds in before we leave for Ball State Friday. Eric (Willenbrink) and Brad (Morris) will go and the other three spots are up for grabs," said Stephens.
