WILLENBRINK SHOOTS GOLF TEAM INTO PLAYOFF WITH FINAL HOLE EAGLE

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team is coming off a terrific performance at the Ball State Intercollegiate where the Colonels finished second out of 15 teams. Standing out for Eastern at Ball State was senior Eric Willenbrink who landed an eagle on his last hole of the tournament.

His fantastic shot not only solidified the first overall individual tournament win (211) for Willenbrink, but also placed the Colonels one hole away from winning the entire tournament. The Colonels lost the playoff hole to Ball State, but this didn't take away from Willenbrink's overall win in the eyes of EKU head coach Pat Stephens.

"I couldn't be happier for Eric (Willenbrink). This is a great time for his first win because it gives the whole team confidence for the OVC Tournament down the road," said Stephens.

Also finishing strong for the Colonels were junior Brad Morris and senior Chad Creech who finished 17th and 24th, respectively, with scores of 220 and 221. Junior James Milam finished 33rd with a score of 223 and senior Brandon Tucker placed 47th with a score of 227.

Eastern heads to Morehead State University this Thursday and Friday for the Morehead State Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. Willenbrink and Chad Creech will not make the trip for the Colonels. Stephens has opted instead to let the younger players have a chance to compete in tournament action this season.

"I want everybody to have a chance this season. Willenbrink and Creech need to concentrate on the OVC's later this month," said Stephens.

EKU and Ball State tied with 54 - hole totals of 875 at the Ball State tourney, followed by IUPUI with 878 and Youngstown State with 880.
