EKU'S MORRIS SELECTED TO GTE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT IV TEAM
RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University sophomore golfer Brad Morris has been selected to the 2000 GTE University Division Men's Spring Sports At-Large Academic All-District IV First Team.
Morris, a native of Stanton and a 1998 graduate of Powell County High School where he won the state championship as a senior, was second on the Colonels and 13th in the Ohio Valley Conference during the regular 2000 season in stroke average per 18 holes with his 75.9 mark.
"Brad is a born leader, has a great work ethic and is a very responsible young man," said EKU men's golf coach Pat Stephens. "He obviously has been able to balance his studies with playing golf. This is a great honor for him and well-deserved recognition for what he has been able to accomplish in the classroom and on the golf course in just two years."
A perfect 4.0 student with a pre-medicine/chemistry major, Morris received the OVC's Medal of Honor for 1999, signifying the top GPA among all of the OVC's men's golfers.
His best tournament this past spring came in early April at the University of Kentucky's Johnny Owens Invitational when he tied for eighth spot with a four-over-par 220 for three rounds.
Just last weekend, Morris finished third at the Persimmon Ridge Invitational Tournament of Champions by firing back-to-back 73's.
The GTE All-District IV Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher.
Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district. The team consists of athletes from the spring sports of golf, lacrosse, tennis, indoor/outdoor track and volleyball.
The GTE Academic All-District Team is part of the GTE Academic All-America program. Morris' name and accomplishments, along with other first-team selections across the country, will appear on the national ballot for the GTE Academic All-America University Division Men's Spring Sports At-Large Team.
