COLONEL GOLF TEAM TO PLAY IN LOUISVILLE TOURNEY NEXT

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team travels to Louisville to play in the University of Louisville Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at the 6,850-yard, par 72 Persimmon Ridge Golf Club, Monday and Tuesday.

Teams entered in the two-day, 36-hole event are Akron, Illinois, Ball State, Cincinnati, DePaul, Kentucky, Louisville, Marquette, Marshall, St. Louis, Ohio, Notre Dame, Murray State, Morehead State, Western Kentucky, Wisconsin, Youngstown State and EKU.

"Persimmon is an awfully tough golf course. It will be interesting to see if we can regroup and meet the challenge," said EKU men's golf coach Pat Stephens.

EKU is coming off a disappointing tie for sixth place in the 10-team Precept Intercollegiate hosted at the Clarksville (TN) Country Club by Austin Peay State University earlier this week.

Eastern shot rounds of 304-310 to finish 38 strokes off the pace set by host Austin Peay.

"The greens were a little tricky, but the bottom line is, we just didn't play well at all," Stephens said. "This just wasn't our tournament. We had a couple of guys play well in one round, but nobody put together a whole tournament."

Sophomore Sam Covitz led the way for the Colonels with a two-round total of 151 which tied him for 15th place. Other Eastern golfers and their places were Jim Milam, tie-23rd, 155; Brandon Tucker and Josh Lee, each tied-26th, 156; and Brad Morris, tie-38th, 160.
