RICHMOND, Ky.-- Eastern Kentucky University senior men's golfer Kris O'Donnell has been selected as a 1998 Top Flite/Etonic All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
O'Donnell, a native of Westerville, OH, was earlier this summer chosen as a second-team GTE District IV Academic All-American for coach Pat Stephens' EKU golf team.
O'Donnell had three top 10 individual finishes for the Colonels in spring '98 tournaments, including a tie for third place in the OVC Tournament with a 214 which produced an all-conference notice for him. He finished the spring as one of the league's top golfers with his 74.9 strokes per-18 hole average.
Criteria for selection include a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 (4.0 scale) for Division I players, academic standing of at least a junior, a season-stroke average of 78.0 or lower and participation in at least 75 percent of the player's school's scheduled competitive rounds.
He is one of 126 student-athletes chosen this year in all three NCAA divisions, including 33 players who participated in the '98 NCAA Tournaments in each division.
O'Donnell accumulated a 3.53 grade-point average and majored in marketing at EKU.
