MEN'S GOLF TEAM TO PLAY IN LEGENDS OF INDIANA TOURNEY

RICHMOND, Ky. - The 1999 fall season continues for coach Pat Stephens' Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team as EKU will be among the 20 teams entered in the Oct. 4-5 Legends of Indiana Golf Classic in Franklin, IN.

EKU tied for second in last weekend's 26th annual Colonel Golf Classic hosted by Eastern at the Arlington Golf Course. Paced by a final round 292 as a team, Western Kentucky edged EKU and Morehead State by two strokes in the 54-hole tournament. Ohio University was fourth and Xavier University was fifth among the 19 teams entered.

"You could tell because of it being the first tournament of the year, we were a little rusty out there," said Stephens. "It was hard to take, getting beat by two strokes on your own course. But this should get our team in the 'tournament mode' and the rest of the fall should be easier as far as that's concerned."

EKU junior Jim Milam of Cincinnati, OH, was the individual medalist for the tournament, shooting a three-under par 213, one stroke better than Morehead State's Ben Hensley.

"Jimmy is capable of doing this. He had an excellent tournament," said Stephens. "I thought after the first couple of holes on Friday that Eric (Willenbrink, tie - 8th, 220) also had a solid tournament for us."

Rounding out Eastern's scores were Brad Morris, tie - 25th, 225; Chad Creech, tie - 57th, 233; and Sam Covitz, tie - 85th, 240. Eastern senior Brandon Tucker played as an individual because of a stomach ailment and finished seventh with a three-over 219.

In the Legends of Indiana tourney Monday, Eastern will go with the lineup of Milam, Willenbrink, Tucker, Morris and a player to be determined by a 36-hole qualifier later this week.
