EKU SPRING INTERCOLLEGIATE UP NEXT FOR MEN'S GOLF TEAM

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team will host the EKU Spring Intercollegiate Tournament this weekend at the Arlington Golf Course.

Nineteen teams will compete for the title. The field includes squads from Dayton, Northeast Louisiana, Murray State, Morehead State, St. Louis, Southern Illinois, Xavier (Ohio), Tennessee Tech, Maryland-Baltimore County, Cumberland, UT Martin, Cleveland State, Eastern Illinois, Youngstown State, Ohio Wesleyan, Denver, Detroit, Wright State and EKU.

Despite such a large field of competitors, EKU head coach Pat Stephens has confidence in his team's expected high finish.

"Our guys practiced a lot over spring break and playing on our home course really boosts our confidence. I expect to come out with a win," Stephens said.

The teams will have a practice round on Thursday, play 36 holes on Friday and finish the tournament with 18 holes Saturday.

Last weekend, Eastern placed 12th out of 25 teams in the East Carolina Pepsi Intercollegiate Tournament in Greenville, NC. Freshman Brad Morris led Eastern with his score of 219 which tied for 15th place in individual standings. Rounding out EKU golfers in this tourney were Eric Willenbrink and Andy Games at 223, James Milam at 229 and Chad Creech at 236.
