RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's golf team will compete Friday and Saturday at the University of Kentucky Johnny Owens Invitational at the Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington.
The tournament, which will feature 18 teams, will be a 54-hole event with 36 holes to be played Friday and the final 18 on Saturday.
"It's going to be a really good field of competition and a challenging course. I believe our guys can finish well if the weather is good," said EKU men's golf coach Pat Stephens.
Last weekend at the Arlington Golf Course, Eastern saw Youngstown State escape the 54-hole, 19-team EKU Spring Intercollegiate Tournament with the championship with a two-stroke advantage over the Colonel golfers.
Junior Eric Willenbrink led Eastern golfers with a second-place finish, shooting a two-over-par 218. Senior Mason Guy and sophomore James Milam, playing as individuals and not counting toward the team score, finished tied for sixth (223) and eighth (224), respectively.
Rounding out Eastern scores were Andy Games at 226, Brad Morris at 230, Brandon Tucker at 235 and Sam Covitz at 237.
"We had a chance to win the tournament, but didn't play as well as we could have down the stretch," Stephens said.
